The Energy - Gender Nexus

Access to basic energy services to Urban and Peri-urban Female Headed Households (FHHs) is an important issue that requires far more attention from policy makers in order to alleviate poverty. The increasing scarcity and costs of household energy has an adverse effect on the livelihoods of the FHHs who are limited in their ability to utilize energy for anything more than satisfying basic needs. This study aimed at investigating the nexus of cooking energy use and gender in the urban area and identifies the demographic and socioeconomic determinants in the overall domestic cooking behavior of urban FHHs.
